the most expensive little dash in history

$1000. Not for a dash, but to get rid of a dash… Sometimes you just have to pay. So I’m very excited to announce that after a year of finger-crossing, I have now acquired the coveted chelseanicole.com!!

beforeandafterThis is a big deal for me. It’s always been a bit of a struggle verbally explaining the little dash in the current chelsea-nicole.com. “No, it’s not a forward-slash or underscore, it’s a dash… ya know, that little line.” I know it sounds silly, but after many times trying to explain this (usually over the phone), I couldn’t help but think how simple it would be to just have chelseanicole.com (no dash). And with other sites that have that pesky little line, it always seems to slip my mind, and I end up at the wrong site. Which of course, made me worry others might do the same with mine. Maybe I over-analyze things? But either way, I realllly wanted this domain!

$1000 for a domain name? I’d say it was a worthy investment! One cool thing is the money spent on the domain didn’t go to a company not using it and merely holding it hostage, which is usually the case. It went to an individual who could really use it right now.

March 18, 2009 - 7:02 pm Juliet - Congratulations! When I started my company, my husband (aka my web guy) told me that I need to find a company name that has a domain available. But you can't really just change your name for this reason alone can you?! LOL

March 18, 2009 - 5:01 pm Jackie Blair - Yeah, somehow I lost jackieblair.com and I am kicking myself! My first web address had a dash too.

March 18, 2009 - 2:03 pm marlin munoz - That is awesome! Things like that do make a difference, especially if you have to over-explain it to a potential client!

March 18, 2009 - 10:53 am Alysha - Right on! That's awesome Chels! I remember you mentioning that you didn't think you were going to be able to get it, so I'm happy it worked out. :)

March 18, 2009 - 8:39 am Suzi - That's terrific, Chelsea! Bummer it had to cost so much, though!

March 17, 2009 - 10:04 pm Jessica - Aaaww, congratulations! That is exciting! (even if it is just a little dash!)

March 17, 2009 - 7:24 pm Gustavo - Congrats! Someday i will get gustavo.com, for now fingers crossed that they will change their minds and lower the $10,000 starting bid!

March 17, 2009 - 5:26 pm Dawn - Yea! I never could bring myself to buy a domain for my business. But then word of mouth & legal referrals are way more important than the internet to me. For someone like you this totally makes sense. Congrats!

March 17, 2009 - 4:52 pm Jamie Delaine - Yayy! good for you! :)

March 17, 2009 - 4:35 pm Andy - haha - i know exactly how you feel. I tried buying andy.com - it's just being squatted for forever - ah well. Glad you got your name! Congrats!
